Ingredients
  

  • 3- pound beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke optional
  • 1 cup beef broth or beef stock
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
  • Pat brisket dry with a paper towel and trim excess fat.
  • In a small bowl, mix together onion powder, brown sugar, garlic powder, chili powder, black pepper, dry mustard, kosher salt and cayenne pepper.
  • Rub the mixture all over the brisket and let it sit for an hour if you have time.
  • In another small bowl, mix together Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, liquid smoke and beef broth or stock.
  • Place the brisket in a roasting pan, fat side up, and pour wet rub over the top.
  • Cover the pan with aluminum foil, sealing it tightly.
  • Cook brisket for 6-8 hours or until internal temperature reaches 190 degrees F.
  • Let brisket rest for 15-20 minutes, slice against the grain and serve with your choice of barbecue sauce.

Notes

-You can skip the resting step if you don't have time.
-Cooking brisket in a slow cooker is also an option.
-For a dry rub style, omit the wet rub ingredients.
