In a saucepan over medium heat, combine all ingredients except salt and hot sauce.
Stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture comes to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium-low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened to your desired consistency.
Remove from heat and add salt and hot sauce to taste.
Let the sauce cool completely and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
To use the sauce, marinate or dip chicken wings or any other dish of your choice. Cook the wings until crispy and fully cooked, using a gas grill, slow cooker, air fryer, or any cooking method of your choice.
Notes
For a sweeter and thicker sauce, you can add more sugar or reduce the amount of vinegar.
For a spicier sauce, you can add more cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, or hot sauce to taste.
You can also use this sauce as a base for other BBQ sauce variations, by adding different spices, herbs, or ingredients of your choice.
Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Serve the sauce with blue cheese or ranch dressing, or use it as a dipping sauce for finger food or game-day party appetizers.
