Substitutions and Variations

Perfect combination of sweet and heat.

Are you keen on experimenting with different flavors? Then, consider trying some of these substitutions and variations in your tropical barbecue sauce recipe.

– Peanut Butter: If you’re a fan of peanut flavor, you can add 1/4 cup of peanut butter to the sauce. It will both thicken the sauce and add a nutty flavor that pairs well with the pineapple and spicy elements.

– Guava Sauce: Another tropical ingredient that goes well with BBQ is guava. You can substitute pineapple juice with guava nectar or guava sauce for tangy and sweet results.

– Chili Sauce: For an extra kick of spiciness, try substituting crushed red pepper flakes for cayenne pepper or hot sauce. You could also include 1/4–1/2 teaspoon of dried chili flakes or harissa paste to add more heat.

– Pulled Pork: Normally barbecue sauces are used to add flavor, but if you want an all-in-one meal, try cooking pulled pork in the sauce. The sweet and spicy combination of the BBQ sauce would be perfect for this application.

– Sauces: Instead of adding soy sauce and Worcestershire, you can use your favorite BBQ sauces such as Cattleman Gold, Winn Dixie Brand or Carolina Spicy

– Tomato Paste: To make thicker barbecue sauce, mix tomato paste into it. It will help you achieve the desired texture while adding an additional layer of rich tomato flavor to the recipe.

– Brown Sugar: If you want a sweeter sauce, increase the amount of brown sugar in your recipe. Alternatively, you could use molasses instead of brown sugar for a richer tasting barbecue sauce.

Experimenting with different ingredients is part of what makes cooking so special. Don’t be afraid to try new things and make this hot and spicy tropical barbecue sauce recipe truly your own!

A burst of flavor in every bite.

It’s always a great idea to make this hot and spicy tropical barbecue sauce recipe ahead of time, especially if you’re planning a barbecue party or picnic.

Fortunately, this sauce keeps really well and can be made up to a week in advance. Once the sauce has cooled down, transfer it to an air-tight container or mason jar and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.

When reheating the sauce, gently heat it on medium heat in a small saucepan, stirring occasionally until heated through. If the sauce has thickened too much during storage, simply add a little bit of pineapple juice or water to thin it out.

If you only need a small amount of sauce for a weekday meal, feel free to halve the recipe accordingly. It’s also easy to double or triple this recipe for larger crowds.

In terms of storing this delicious BBQ sauce, I don’t recommend freezing it as the texture can change and the flavors might alter. Instead, refrigerate the homemade barbecue sauce and use it within one week for optimal flavor.

Extremely Tasty Hot and Spicy Tropical Barbecue Sauce

Extremely Tasty Hot and Spicy Tropical Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Okay....the name says it all, except that this is quick and easy to make! It uses items you grab off the grocery store shelves and throw together in a saucepan. Within 10 minutes you have a "WOW" tasting sauce. This isn't for a pork sandwich (although you could), but it is fabulous with grilled chicken, fish, or pork. Since the first review, I decided to add: If you can't find hot mustard based barbecue sauce, regular mustard based sauce will do, just add some dried red pepper flakes. The mustard barbecue sauce I use is very hot.
